Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative
- Over 5 million hectares of steppe landscape protected for wildlife in Kazakhstan
- Saiga antelope population has increased from 29,000 in 2005 to >2.8 million
- Two large herbivores reintroduced to the area: Kulan (Asiatic wild asses) and Przewalski’s horses
- Outreach work conducted with local schools
- Ranger and aerial patrols established, and detection measures implemented to tackle wildlife crime
- The project benefits from extensive and ongoing collaboration between CCI partners: BirdLife International, Fauna & Flora, IUCN’s Red List Unit, the RSPB, TRAFFIC, and the Masters in Conservation Leadership
