David Attenborough Building wins Architects’ Journal Retrofit Award

20th September 2017

The David Attenborough Building, home to the CCI Conservation Campus, has been awarded the Best Office (2,000m2 – 10,000m2) category in the 2017 Architects’ Journal Retrofit Awards.

The AJ Retrofit Awards, run by The Architects’ Journal, is one of the most highly regarded in UK architecture and celebrates the design, engineering and construction excellence that prolongs and improves the life of our built world.

The CCI Campus space within the David Attenborough Building is a workspace specifically designed by Nicholas Hare Architects to enhance collaboration and interaction. It provides office space for around 500 individuals from the CCI partners; 150 academics and 350 from CCI’s conservation organisation partners.

The vibrant working space includes a four-storey tall living green wall alongside shared facilities, including a conservation Information Resource Centre (the A.G. Leventis Library and Information Services) and atrium with reception area. Communal spaces, including rooftop courtyards seminar and meeting rooms, are designed for networking. Sustainability and ensuring the Campus was as ‘green’ an urban building as possible was at the heart of the design. Features include a biodiverse green roof, electricity-generating photovoltaic panels and user-tailored lighting.
