Toward an integrated approach to the mapping and mitigating of global pressures on biodiversity

This project will bring together the University of Cambridge Zoology Department, UNEP-WCMC and other CCI partners and associated agencies around the world to undertake three areas of exploratory work. The project will be conducted as follows: first, we will review the scientific literature and all technical products on the internet to assess the degree that different kinds of pressures as recognised in the IUCN threat mapping classification can be mapped; second, we will work together with CCI and non-CCI partners to compile available GIS data that maps different pressures; third, we will produce new GIS data on pressures that have not already been mapped, but where we are sure that they can; fourth, we will review the available scientific literature that outlines how the different pressures on biodiversity can be mitigated. We will develop systems where the findings of this exploratory work can be shared and we will outline a plan for further work on this important issue of broad relevance to many in conservation science.
