Prof Bill Sutherland awarded 2024 International Cosmos Prize
18th July 2024
We are delighted to share that Prof Bill Sutherland, former CCI council member and an active member of the CCI community, has been awarded the 2024 International Cosmos Prize.
The International Cosmos Prize is awarded by the Expo ’90 Foundation and recognizes outstanding research activities and achievements both in Japan and abroad that are in line with the Foundation’s philosophy of “The Harmonious Coexistence between Nature and Humankind”.
Prof Sutherland was awarded the prize in acknowledgement of his extensive accomplishments including research and other activities that range from fundamental ecological studies to recommendations on environmental policy.
The Foundation also noted his work establishing, implementing and promoting the concept of “evidence-based conservation”, a term he coined to illustrate the innovative integration of knowledge supporting efforts to halt the ongoing global decline in biodiversity.
Previous winners include Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. Edward Osborne Wilson.
