It’s World Water Day and this year’s theme is valuing water. Water is of course crucial for all life and Earth Optimism, which runs from 26th March- 4th April, has plenty of events celebrating water conservation, as well as ideas of how you can help save precious water supplies.
Check out the Solutions Fair for ways to use water wisely in your home, create a wildlife pond in your garden or if you’re in the Cambridge area, find out how to discover and record nature along the Old West River.
Wetlands are so important for wildlife – come along to find out about the National Trust’s Wicken Fen Vision project. Property General Manager Sarah Smith says: ““The Wicken Fen Vision has seen the return of otters, water voles, cranes and marsh harriers to the nature reserve over the last 20 years; we know that wildlife can return with the right changes. I see many organisations working closer than ever before on a landscape-scale to join up these fragments of biodiversity and create a wilder future for Cambridgeshire. All of this gives me great hope for the future of the landscape I call home.”

Speaking of cranes- a community of volunteers in Kenya have been working with the community around Lake Ol’ Bolossat to share the importance of cranes and to develop ways that community members can coexist with these beautiful birds.
Or find out more about ocean conservation: join Caribbean marine biologist Dr David Gill as he investigates how local communities and researchers are devising solutions for conserving the biodiversity of the oceans and securing coastal livelihoods.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating water and wildlife!
