BirdLife International, the British Trust for Ornithology, and the RSPB yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding data collected about bird species. In addition to collecting large amounts of data about birds from around the world, these three CCI partners also manage a number of tools that collate and visualise data about bird species, such as BirdTrack. The new MoU ensures that data collected on where individual bird species occur, and in what numbers, is put to good use through these tools.
Andy Clements, Director of the BTO, said “We’re very pleased to have signed this MoU today between the BTO, BirdLife International and the RSPB. Sharing this global data in this way will increase our knowledge of bird distribution and abundance, and increase our ability to deliver conservation outcomes as a result.”
The MoU was signed following a meeting of the BTO’s Council, which CCI was delighted to be able to host in the David Attenborough Building.
