Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. We were due to celebrate this with our Earth Optimism event on Saturday, and while the Covid-19 outbreak means we can’t host the event this year, we are planning to be back in 2021. In the meantime we can still bring you plenty of reasons to be optimistic!
Earth Optimism will be coming to you online with the Smithsonian’s digital summit. There’s a packed programme of speakers as well as a film night and art activities.
Many of the speakers we had lined up are busy with other projects that you can check out. Sir David Attenborough will be going back to the classroom and teaching geography lessons for BBC Bitesize; Steve Backshall has been running live lessons and a Q&A each week- you can follow him here; and Mya-Rose Graig (BirdGirl) has been busy blogging about nature you can see from your window.
We have been telling some of our own good news stories on our dedicated Earth Optimism website. From saving albatrosses with RSPB and BirdLife, to conserving the Togo Slippery Frog with the Tropical Biology Association, there are plenty of great conservation successes to celebrate.
