International Youth Day

12th August marks International Youth Day. The theme of International Youth Day 2020 is “Youth Engagement for Global Action”. The day will highlight the ways in which young people engage at the local, national and global levels.
CCI partners are committed to involving and engaging young people in biodiversity at all levels. Here’s some of the great work they are doing!
BTO’s Youth Advisory Panel are a group of young volunteers who are working with BTO towards an inclusive and extensive Youth Engagement Strategy, helping BTO inspire the next generation of birdwatchers.
RSPB also have a Youth Council, made up of 10 ambassadors who ensure that young people are at the heart of their work. In 2019, young people were the ambassadors for the State of Nature report. It featured a foreword by a collective of young conservationists who are passionate about conservation and the future of our wildlife and nature to preserve it for future generations.
Further afield, on the island of Onotepe in Lake Nicaragua, FFI are working with local partners to support youth groups to participate in and influence the conservation and management of the island’s natural environment.
Tropical Biology Association run practical field courses for young conservationists giving them valuable experience in the tropics, with an emphasis on skills and understanding. Their network of alumni provides a global community of conservationists. Read some of their stories here.
