Andy Clements, Chair of the England Species Reintroduction Task Force (ESRT), will deliver a talk looking at the increasing interest in, and impact of, moving species for conservation. Andy will cover the integration between species movements and ecosystem function so delivering for habitats as well as species. The work of the ESRT is seeking to promote more and better translocations through expert advice and guidance and the talk will report on our work to communicate the challenges and benefits more widely. Mince pies and mulled wine will follow in the David Attenborough Building common room for those attending in-person!
Speaker:
Andy is CCI's Strategy Director. He trained as a scientist with a degree and PhD in Zoology from the University of Wales. After a postdoc studying birdsong at Sussex University, Andy moved into a career in nature conservation joining the Nature Conservancy Council as a field scientist in 1982. Following a range of roles, including a secondment to Government to oversee the regulation of keepers of birds of prey, and to advise Customs on the international trade in endangered species, Andy returned to English Nature at the start of the 1990’s. Leading the Sites of Special Scientific Interest programme focused on improving site condition. In 2000 Andy assumed the role of Director, Protected Areas where he led the successful defence of Dibden Bay at Public Inquiry, a watershed moment in designated site protection. When Natural England was created, Andy became the first Director of Science, Evidence and Policy.
