Background

With a career spanning three decades, Matthew Spencer has an impressive record in brokering sustainable land use strategies between international commodity businesses, small farmers and government agencies in 22 landscapes across Asia, Africa and Latin America. He has held numerous leadership roles with Oxfam and Green Alliance and was a member of the UK Governments Renewable Advisory Board. Matthew is currently Global Director Landscapes, at IDH. Matthew is looking forward to  working with the CCI community to help identify why some things are working in tropical forest protection and restoration, in order to contribute to the protection of these critical terrestrial ecosystems.  

Matthew Spencer is CCI’s second Turner Fellow taking up the post in October 2023.
