An international expert meeting, ‘Framing the Future for Biodiversity: Effective use of knowledge in developing the post-2020 global biodiversity framework’, was convened between 10-12 April.
This meeting was a key activity of the CCI Collaborative Fund project 'CCI engagement in defining the post-2020 biodiversity agenda'.
Following the meeting those staff from UNEP-WCMC, IUCN, BirdLife and RSPB involved in CBD meetings spoke with a number of national delegations during those meetings, further drawing attention to the importance of an evidence-based approach to developing the post-2020 global biodiversity strategy, and highlighting issues that had been discussed during the international expert meeting. At the CBD COP14, Parties and other stakeholders were asked to submit their views on the scope and content of the global biodiversity framework, and these have been compiled into a synthesis of views, and a discussion paper has been developed.
Following the CCI post-2020 expert meeting in April 2018, an information document was prepared based on substantive input from discussions during the expert meeting and made available to SBSTTA as CBD/SBSTTA/22/INF/31 and to SBI as CBD/SBI/2/INF/33.
