Background

I served as Chair of the Cambridge Conservation Forum from July 2016- July 2020, and am now Treasurer.  I work for Natural England on conservation ecology in the Chief Scientist’s Directorate and, at the moment, I’m currently working on how we should design an ecological network for conservation and ecosystem services that will be resilient to the increasing pressures of climate change and other anthropogenic pressures.

I studied cooperative breeding in bee-eaters in Nigeria for my PhD at Aberdeen. This was followed by work on the side-effect of pesticides in Scotland and Zimbabwe. I then moved to the British Trust for Ornithology, where I headed up the Nest Record Scheme and then more general work on avian demography and climate change, before joining Natural England.
